The Killers will take up residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this August. The 4,100-seat venue will provide an intimate setting for the famous rock band. Tickets went on sale on January 27, 2024, but they sold out quickly. The cheapest tickets for the opening night show on the second-hand market are around $200 per seat.
Who Are The Killers?
The Killers formed in 2001 in Las Vegas, so you can imagine the excitement surrounding a residency in their hometown.
About the Members
Founding members Brandon Flowers (vocals, keyboards, bass) and Dave Keuning (lead guitar, backing vocals) went through various bassists and drummers before teaming up with Mark Stoermer (bass, rhythm guitars, backing vocals) and Ronnie Vanucci Jr. (drums, percussion).
The members have taken hiatuses from touring and worked on solo projects, but they are established as the band’s permanent lineup.
Flowers started his music career in a synth-pop trio called Blush Response, but after seeing a live performance by the rock band Oasis, he decided rock n roll was his true calling. He placed an ad in a Las Vegas paper to find other musicians and eventually teamed up with Keuning. They began writing songs in Keuning’s apartment.
They named their band The Killers after a fictional band in a New Order video for the song “Crystal.”
About the Music
The Killers brought a refreshing sound to a scene dominated by punk, nu metal, and rap. One reviewer wrote, “The Killers don’t come across like any band in town.” He described their sound as “pop styles of British music and lo-fi fuzz of modern rock.” However, others described the band’s sound as “erratic.”
During the early stages, the band recorded demos with many songs that would appear on the “Hot Fuss” album, including “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me,” and “Smile Like You Mean It.” It wasn’t long before they caught the attention of A&R professionals and record labels. They eventually inked a deal with Lizard King Records.
The Killers released Hot Fuss in 2004. They continue to release music to this day. They have had countless hits.
They are considered one of the biggest rock bands of the 21st century. They have sold over 28 million records worldwide, including 10.8 million in the United States. They have performed in over 50 countries across six continents.
Why are The Killers Doing a Las Vegas Residency?
The Killers Vegas residency will be a 20th anniversary celebration of the release of Hot Fuss, which came out on August 19, 2004. The album was one of their most famous, featuring hits like “Mr. Brightside”, “Somebody Told Me”, and “All These Things That I’ve Done”. The band will be performing the entire record from front to back.
The residency follows the release of their latest album, Rebel Diamonds. After they complete the residency, they will head out on several dates to headline major festivals around the U.S.
